John Steele

 
 

John was the first Olympic skier from Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Born in Minneapolis, he came to Steamboat in 1918. In March of 1924, he broke the world record for boy amateurs 14 and under when he jumped 123 feet at Dillon, Colorado. He attended the University of Denver and organized the Pioneer Ski Club, serving as its first president. In 1932, he was chosen to be a member of the US Olympic Ski Team.
