Colorado Snowsports Museum Premieres New 10th Mountain Division Exhibit: Letters Home

VAIL, CO – December 28, 2023 - Years in the making, the Colorado Snowsports Museum is excited to premiere a new interactive, digital touchscreen display in our 10th Mountain Division exhibition: Letters Home. This revamped exhibit now includes access to our 10th Mountain Division archive, including digitized letters from soldiers, scrapbooks, photos, army communications, rosters, and more at the touch of a visitor's fingertips. This exhibit will premiere to the public on Friday, January 12 from 5 pm to 6 pm.

This exhibit was made possible by our generous donors Kent Erickson and Barb Krichbaum and the Tenth Mountain Division Foundation.

This photo shows a digitized letter from veteran Graydon Fuller, that is featured in the new digital touchscreen exhibit.

Executive Director Jen Mason says, “One question we get almost every other day is to see a list of all 10th Mountain Division veterans. Through this exhibit, visitors can search their loved one’s name.” In addition, the roster will also indicate if materials are available to view that relate to that specific veteran.

The new display brings the archive and collection into the Museum for visitors to browse. Curator and Director of Collections Dana Mathios explains, “This exhibit showcases years of digitization and preservation work done behind the scenes. It’s incredible to see this project come to fruition and for visitors to take a deep dive into the history of the 10th Mountain Division from a different, more personal lens.”

Mathios goes on to explain that after the 2018 renovation, she felt that this was one of the exhibits where a few areas could be improved.

She says: “This new approach allows for better preservation of our artifacts and the technology gives us the ability to exhibit so many more artifacts at one time.” There are currently over a thousand materials uploaded to the monitor – thanks to our generous donors.

In addition to this change, the CSM has also added a section on Women at Camp Hale. Long overdue, this addition now sits in our “Welcome to Camp Hale” section and mentions these women's important roles.

The CSM was proud to be featured by the:
